Who was Om Puri?: When he was 7 years old, he started washing glasses at a shop. Apart from Hindi films, worked in Pakistan and Hollywood films. Puri graduated from the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII), Pune. He also studied at the National School of Drama (NSD), Delhi. Here Naseeruddin Shah was his classmate. He completed his early education from his maternal grandmother Patiala in Punjab. In 1976, took training from FTII, Pune. Later Ompuri formed his own private theatre group "Majma". Om Puri has also worked with Salman Khan in his film 'Tubelight'.
Many film awards received: He acted in many films like Godhuli, Bhumika, Bhookh, Shayad, Sanch ko Aanch Nahin but it did not give him much benefit, but the film "Aakrosh" released in 1980 proved to be the first hit film of his cinema career. Om Puri was honoured with the Actor's Filmfare Award. The film "Ardha Satya" was one such film, which is counted among the important films of Om Puri's cinema career. Om Puri played the role of a police inspector in the film. Apart from Hindi films, Om Puri has also shown his art in Punjabi and other language films and has acted as a good actor. In the nineties, Om Puri has also shown his inclination towards the small screen. In 1990, he was awarded the Padma Shri for his very good contribution to the cinema world. Acted in around 200 films in a cinema career spanning 4 decades. Om Puri, facing many problems in his life, kept moving towards his goal but never gave up and reached his destination. He died on this day i.e. 06 January 2017.
