Jadavpur University (JU) student organizations, who protested against Bengal Governor Jagdeep Dhankhar, have decided to expel him from the post of Chancellor, on various issues. The Arts Faculty Students Union (AFSU) wrote an open letter to 'expel' the Governor from the post of Chancellor. He has also been called 'spineless'. AFSU's leader to Ushashi Pal said - "We will expel the governor in a symbolic manner as the chancellor of a premier educational institution like JU." JU has always encouraged liberal thinking and inclusiveness.

In the open letter on this matter, it has been alleged that in the presence of the governor, the miscreants bombed and vandalized the JU premises on September 19 and sexually harassed the women. It was also said that the Governor had not been invited to the JU on 22 December, he had arrived without calling. He is doing shameful work to get the attention of the students and thus wasting valuable time. The letter further stated that several questions related to NRC, CAA and NPR were raised to the Governor, to which his reply has been unsatisfactory. The general knowledge of the Governor is also not satisfactory. His knowledge of history is zero and the overall character is devoid of vertebrae.

AFSU is angry with the Governor's stand on various issues including the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). On the other hand, the Bengal government has also cut the rights of the Governor as Chancellor of Universities. According to the new rules, the Chancellor will no longer be able to interfere in the daily activities of the university nor can he directly advise the office bearers of the university. Negotiations between the Chancellor and University Management will now be held through the state's Higher Education Department.
