Chandigarh: In order to complete the census 2021 successfully, a state-level conference of the Divisional Commissioners and Deputy Commissioners of Punjab and senior officers of Chandigarh (UT) is going to be held at Punjab Bhavan. While chairing it, Additional Chief Secretary, Local Bodies-cum-Nodal Officer Sanjay Kumar, emphasized to make the common people aware of this important task and to train the government employees. Director Census Punjab and Chandigarh Dr. Abhishek Jain made a presentation on various issues related to Census 2021 and said that the first phase of 45 days of Census 2021 is from May 15 to June 29, 2020, in Punjab and April 15 to May 30, 2020, in Chandigarh. He gave detailed information about the role and responsibilities of Deputy Commissioners and Municipal Commissioners as the chief census officer in their jurisdiction.

According to the information received, the joint director Mrityunjay Kumar said that there are 5 divisions in Punjab, which include 22 districts, 91 tehsils, 170 towns with statutory status, 95 census towns (non-starchy) and 12,477 villages. Regarding this, he told that about 67555 enumerators and supervisors will collect more than 3 crore population figures from about 60 lakh households in the state. During this time Punjab and U.T. Information related to the functioning of the census-related mobile app and CMMS portal was also given by the officials of the Chandigarh Census Directorate.

The Registrar General and Census Commissioner Dr. Vivek Joshi told that the data will be collected by the mobile app and if an enumerator is unable to run the mobile app, then he can also compulsorily give the data through the paper. He said that field workers will be paid more than this time. Additional allowance will be given to the personnel who collect information by the digital format.
