A bunch of stray dogs saved a brave traffic cop who was trying to rescue three villagers, who were being attacked by a wild bear in Doddaballapur. The incident took place in Hosahalli village in Doddaballapur on the early morning of Saturday. On Saturday early morning, the wild bear was attacking random people in two different villages in Doddaballapur. Narasimha Murthy, a resident of Hosahalli and a traffic constable attached to Devanahalli traffic police station, was on his way to his work when he witnessed the attack around 7:15 am.

The bear was attacking two to three men, who were on their way to pick up wood. Narasimha Murthy rushed to the spot to help them when the bear knocked him down and started attacking him. While the other locals were terrified to reach out to him, the stray dogs came to his rescue. Around three to four stray dogs immediately ran towards him and started attacking the wild bear. After a few barks and attacks, the stray dogs managed to chase away the bear.

According to a police officer said, “The bear first appeared near Ujjini Betta and attacked a laborer around 6 am and then ran towards Hosahalli where it attacked a traffic constable and three others.” Doddaballapur forest officials rushed to the spot after trailing the bear as it began its attacks from Ujjini Betta. The officials rushed the victims to a nearby hospital.

A forest official said, “One of the forest officials was also attacked while he was trying to capture the bear in Hosahalli,” said an officer. The victims, Shivakumar, Muniraju, Gangadharajappa and Narasimhamurthy, who was attacked in Ujjini, have sustained injuries on their hands and legs while Narasimha Murthy, the traffic constable has sustained severe injuries and had to get several stitches on his stomach, thighs, hands, and legs. A police official said that the forest officials are still looking for the wild bear and have laid traps in and around the village.
