Yesterday, the All Arunachal Pradesh Students' Union (AAPSU) held its annual Martyrs' Day at the NEFA Club close here to commemorate the great sacrifices of former union leaders.

Every year, the day is commemorated to honour previous union leaders Late Kipa Kache, Late Tobom Bam, and Late Khoda Dolu for their great sacrifices. Kipa Kache was the AAPSU's first martyr, who died on February 4, 1986, during the height of the anti-refugee movement. Tobom Bam died on May 18, 1994, after taking part in the historic AAPSU-organized 'Delhi Chalo March' against foreigners living in the state.

On June 14, 2004, Khoda Dolu, the former chief coordinator of AAPSU, gave his life while on service with AAPSU. Gumjum Haider, the State Information Commissioner (SIC) and a former AAPSU leader, attended the event and shared his important insights and experiences with the audience.

Meanwhile, Tobom Dai, the general secretary of the AAPSU, recalled Late Liki Ete's significant contributions to the advancement of student movement across the State. He described Ete as a simple individual and a powerful leader who led a broad anti-refugee movement across the State in the early 1990s. Ete served as the AAPSU's general secretary. Earlier in the day, the union hosted a memorial service for Liki Ete, who died last Thursday.
