RABAT: In Turkey, a video of high school students kicking and desecrating a copy of the Quran generated indignation among internet users. The incident occurred in a high school in Antalya's Serik area.
A student throws a copy of the Quran into the air, which is kicked by another student. As the religious text strikes the ceiling before falling to the ground, students can be heard laughing in the background.
Turkey's Ministry of Education has confirmed that "disciplinary action has been taken against the students involved in the incident," which they define as "inappropriate behaviour toward the Qu'ran."
An inspector has also been assigned by the Ministry to look into the matter further.
Muslims in Turkey and Arab countries were shocked and outraged by the video, with many demanding that the students be held accountable for their acts.

The incident is not the first time the Quran has been desecrated in the country. Four people were arrested in northern Turkey in October of last year after a video surfaced online showing people shredding and hurling pages from the Quran in a football stadium.
Earlier this year, Rasmus Palidar, the leader of the Danish far-right party Stram Kurs, publicly burnt a copy of the Quran at anti-Islamophobia protests in Sweden.
