According to a study, vitamin D levels prior to Covid infection may increase the severity of the disease as well as the chance of fatality. Although vitamin D is well known for its role in bone health, low levels of the supplement have been associated with numerous of autoimmune, cardiovascular, and infectious illnesses.

Early in the epidemic, health officials began advising individuals to take Vitamin D since it aids in immune response and may protect against Covid-19.

Patients with vitamin D insufficiency (less than 20 ng/mL) were 14 times more likely than those with more than 40 ng/mL to have severe or critical Covid, according to a study led by experts from Bar-Ilan University in Safed, Israel.

Surprisingly, patients with adequate vitamin D levels had a death rate of 2.3 percent, compared to 25.6 percent in the vitamin D deficient group.

Vitamin D insufficiency has been linked to a worsening of Coronavirus disease-19 outcomes (COVID-19). In COVID-19, the goal is to see if 25-hydroxyvitamin-D (25OHD) levels are linked to interleukin 6 (IL-6) levels, illness severity, and death.
