New Delhi: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) veteran leader and Rajya Sabha MP Subramanian Swamy has written a letter to PM Narendra Modi to change the national anthem. He has also shared this letter sent to PM Modi on Twitter. He has said in his letter that the national anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' was accepted in the Constituent Assembly as the vote of the House.

Swamy further wrote, 'On 26 November 1949, on the last day of the Constituent Assembly, Speaker Rajendra Prasad accepted 'Jana Gana Mana' as a national anthem without voting.' However, he believed that in future the Parliament could change its wording. Swamy has written that consensus was necessary at that time, as many members believed that it should be discussed, as it was sung at the 1912 Congress session to welcome the British King.

Swamy said that Dr Rajendra Prasad, understanding the sentiments of the members, left this work to the future Parliament. He appealed to PM Narendra Modi to bring a resolution in Parliament that its words be changed without disturbing the tune of Jana Gana Mana. Swamy has also suggested that only the changes made by Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose can be accepted in this.
