Patna: Horticulture crops are becoming extremely popular among farmers due to spectacular gains in low cost. Farmers are also being continuously encouraged by the government to cultivate these crops. A bumper subsidy is also being given to farmers to cultivate these crops in many states. The Bihar government is giving a subsidy of up to 50 per cent i.e. Rs 49,000 at Rs 98,000 per hectare unit cost for onion cultivation. Farmers can easily apply on the official portal horticulture.bihar.gov.in of Bihar Agriculture Department, Directorate of Horticulture to take advantage of this subsidy scheme. Onion cultivation can be grown in any fertile soil. However, sandy loam soil is considered suitable for its cultivation. Onion is grown as a tuber, so it should not be cultivated in waterlogged land. Its crop requires land of 5 to 6 PH value. It can be cultivated in both cold and hot climates.
How to grow?
Onion seedlings are planted through plants. Its plants are prepared in the nursery one to two months in advance before planting its tubers in the field. If you do not want to follow this process, then you can buy onion plants from a registered nursery and plant them in the fields.
How much is the yield:-
About 250 to 400 quintals of onion are produced from one hectare of field, if the farmer brother wants, then both its yields can yield up to 800 quintals, according to which the farmer brothers can earn a good income of 3 to 4 lakhs in a year.
