The Tamil Nadu Rural Rejuvenation Scheme in Coimbatore district has provided a INR 3.77 crore to 4,741 beneficiaries as Covid-19 special relief assistance. The scheme worth INR 300 crore is a part of the World Bank assisted project to Tamil Nadu launched in May. Each district has been allocated INR 10 crores initially.
The District Rural Development Agency (DRDA) officials, the financial assistance will ensure sustained economic growth in rural areas. It would help bridge the supply chain gaps in rural enterprises during the lockdown besides helping farmers, producers and women Self-Help Groups. The Coimbatore district is both industrial and agricultural activity oriented. This fund helps is setting farmers production centers and more than 200 migrant workers to start their own enterprises in the State. “The project is being implemented in 3,994 village panchayats in 120 blocks of 30 districts with a total outlay of Rs 918.2 crore. For Coimbatore, the government has allocated Rs 5.16 crore, which includes 5,047 beneficiaries from 54 villages in four blocks — Periyanaickenpalayam, Annur, SS Kulam and Karamadai,” they added. Fund has been increased successively.
So far, INR 2.06 crore for individual loans, INR 67.50 lakh towards Loans for farmers committee, INR 16.50 Lakh towards Loans for industrial council, INR 20 Lakh towards Loans for migrant laborers and INR 21.21 Lakh towards Loans for young entrepreneurs has been disbursed. Owing to increase in corona cases, the government is planning to increase the vigil in the border districts.
