Bengaluru: Two prominent independent candidates, cine artists Sumalatha Ambareesh (Mandya) and Prakash Rai (Bengaluru central) have been allotted their symbols for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The Election Commission (EC) has finalized the symbols for independent candidates. It is gathered that Sumalatha has been allotted Farmer blowing trumpet' and Prakash Rai has been allotted a whistle. Sumalatha had chosen three images - 'Coconut Grove', 'Farmer blowing trumpet' and 'Woman carrying a bundle of sugarcane on her head', informed sources.

It can be recalled that the 'whistle' was once used by the Lok Satta party as its election symbol. The 'turha' is expected to boost Sumalatha's campaign as it is one of the popular musical instruments in the Old Mysuru region. Karnataka will vote to elect its members of parliament during the 2nd and 3rd phases of polling on April 18 and April 23 respectively. The counting will happen on May 23, 2019, and the results will be out on the same day before evening.
