New Delhi: The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Central Government to provide it with information about the steps taken so far by the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to tackle pollution in the National Capital Region (NCR) and adjoining areas. Additional Solicitor General Aishwarya Bhati, appearing for the Center, told a bench headed by Chief Justice (CJI) SA Bobde that the government was preparing a composite affidavit for filing the case in the Supreme Court.
The court also comprises Justices AS Bopanna and Justice Ramasubramanian. The bench said you file your affidavit. The court said that the affidavit should contain information about the steps taken by the commission to curb pollution. During the video-conference hearing from the court hearing the cases related to air pollution in Delhi-NCR, it was said that the commission has not done anything yet.
Senior advocate Vikas Singh, appearing for petitioner Aditya Dubey, who raised the issue of increasing pollution due to the burning of stubble in the neighbouring states of Delhi, said that while the committee has 14 members, they have done nothing. To this, Bhati said that our affidavit is ready. Give us two days' deferment. A lawyer appearing in the case claimed that there has been a five per cent increase in incidents of stubble burning. "We are preparing the overall report," Bharti said. The court fixed December 17 for further hearing in the case.
