The current President of India, Ram Nath Kovind, on Sunday praised the efforts of the Indian judiciary to move forward on the goal of gender justice and said that the Supreme Court has always been active and progressive. At the International Judicial Conference 2020 on 'Judiciary and the changing world', the President said that the apex court has led progressive social change.
For your information, let us tell you that while addressing the legal experts, President Kovind said that the historic decisions of the Supreme Court have strengthened the legal and constitutional framework of India. Keeping in view the linguistic diversity of India, the President termed the efforts of the Supreme Court in providing verdicts in different languages as extraordinary. He praised the Supreme Court for providing the verdict in nine indigenous languages.
In his statement, he further said that he referred to the two decade old Visakha guidelines which were implemented to prevent sexual harassment of women at the workplace. The President said that the Supreme Court has always been proactive and progressive to achieve the goal of gender justice if given an example. The Supreme Court has spearheaded progressive social change till issuing instructions this month to give equal status to women.
