New Delhi: The Supreme Court has dismissed the review petition filed by Gujarat riots rape victim Bilkis Bano. In her petition, Banu challenged the apex court's May order allowing the Gujarat government to release 11 convicts under the 1992 jail rules. In her petition, Bilkis Bano opposed the release of her convicts.

In her plea, she had challenged the early release of 11 people convicted for the gang rape and murder of her family members in 2002. Earlier, the Supreme Court had refused to hear this petition early. Advocate Shobha Gupta, appearing for Bilkis Bano, urged a bench of Chief Justice (CJI) DY Chandrachud and Justice PS Narasimha to set up another bench to hear the matter. On which CJI Chandrachujar had said, 'The writ petition will be listed. Please don't mention the same thing over and over again.'

Banu had sought a review of the May 13 order passed by the apex court on the plea of a convict. The apex court had asked the Gujarat government to consider within two months a plea seeking the premature release of the convicts under the July 9, 1992 policy. The Gujarat government released all 11 convicts on August 15, 2022.
