The Supreme Court of India has rejected the curative petition filed on behalf of the victims in the Uphaar cinema fire case. The Uphaar fire victims association had filed a curative petition in the court regarding the punishment given to the Ansal brothers. Harbansh Singh Rahi, the victim of the fire incident, said that the punishment given to the culprits is very less. Rajendra Singh Tanwar, who had lost three brothers, had said that the culprits have received less punishment. The decision that comes on curative petition has to be accepted by the petitioner.

On June 13, 1997, a border film was set up in Uphaar Cinema Hall in Delhi. A sudden short circuit caught fire during that time. 59 people died in this fire. While more than 100 people were scorched.
