New Delhi: An application has been filed in the Supreme Court on Thursday. In this filed petition, the law of the Kerala government has been challenged in which a law has been made to ban the sacrifice. In this petition, the practice of sacrificing animals in the name of deities in the temple has been described as an integral part of religion. However, the petition also gives the reason that when Muslims can sacrifice animals on Bakrid and on certain occasions in Christian churches, then why can't a Hindu sacrifice? The SC is ready to check constitutionality on this question of the petition.

The Animal and Bird Sacrifice Act in Kerala is 52 years old. Within this act, sacrifices of animals and birds to Hindus are banned. A petition was filed against it in the Kerala High Court. This petition was dismissed by the High Court on June 16. In its decision, the High Court had said that there is no such fact in this petition which can prove that the said practice is an integral part of religion. Speaking on this, the High Court had dismissed the petition. After the petition was dismissed from the High Court, this case reached the Supreme Court.

Senior advocates in the Supreme KV Vishwanathan and V Giri have put their side to the law banning the sacrifice of animals and birds in the name of the Gods and Goddesses in the temple of Kerala government. However, the Supreme Court Chief Justice SA Bobde, Justice RS Reddy and Justice AS Bopanna agreed to examine the same constitutional validity on the questions raised in the petition. It was said that religious sacrifice of animals is permitted on the basis of the law made by the Central Government, although animal cruelty is prohibited in it.
