Supreme court dismisses NCP leader Ajit Pawar's plea, seeks to stop the investigation

New Delhi: Senior Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) leader and former Deputy Chief Minister of the state Ajit Pawar has received a major setback from the Supreme Court on Monday. The apex court has rejected a petition seeking to stop the investigation into the co-operative bank scam. The Supreme Court has issued directives from the Maharashtra Police for a fair inquiry into the matter. This scam is more than about 5 thousand crore rupees.

While hearing the case, a bench of Justice Arun Mishra and Justice MR Shah has categorically refused to interfere in the investigation. The court has said that investigation cannot be stopped under any circumstance. Along with this, the Supreme Court has also kept the High Court's order for filing FIR.

This petition was filed by more than 50 accused including a senior leader of Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) and former Deputy Chief Minister of the state Ajit Pawar. The order of the Mumbai High Court was challenged in the petition. On August 22, the Bombay High Court had ordered registration of an FIR against NCP leader Ajit Pawar and 69 others in the Maharashtra State Co-operative Bank scam, now the case will be investigated on the basis of this FIR.
