The Supreme Court of India has issued a notice concerning the petition to cancel NEET-UG 2024 due to widespread complaints about discrepancies. Despite the ongoing investigation, the court has decided not to halt the counselling process. "The sanctity has been affected, we need answers," the court remarked, as it scheduled the petition, filed by 10 NEET candidates, for a hearing on July 8. The court has also requested a response from the National Testing Agency (NTA) regarding allegations of a 'paper leak' and other malpractices, it reports.

This issue gained traction after Ayushi Patel, a medical aspirant from Lucknow, released a viral video claiming that her NEET results were not generated. She alleged that the NTA did not issue her examination result, justifying it by saying her OMR sheet was received in a torn state. The NTA has since clarified this matter on social media.

"Regarding the viral video featuring Ms. Ayushi Patel, claiming discrepancies in NEET (UG) 2024 scoring and the receiving of the torn OMR Answer Sheet, NTA clarifies that no torn OMR Answer Sheet was sent via an official NTA ID. The OMR Answer Sheet is intact, and scores are accurate as per official records. Candidates should download scorecards only from the website https://exams.nta.ac.in/NEET," the NTA stated on X (formerly Twitter).

Amid these allegations, there have also been complaints about the improper use of the 'normalisation formula' by the NTA to award grace marks to students. A writ petition accusing the NTA of 'marks inflation' was filed before the Supreme Court. In response, the NTA has set up a committee to review the grace marks awarded to NEET-UG 2024 candidates.

The NEET-UG 2024, conducted on May 5, serves as the medical entrance test for admission to undergraduate medical programs. The provisional answer key was released on May 29, and the final answer key was made available on June 4.
