Supreme court may soon get four new judges, names sent to central government

New Delhi: The Supreme Court is expected to get 4 new judges within the next few days. With Justice Abhay Manohar Sapre retiring and new posts of judges created, it is expected that four new judges will be appointed to the top court soon. The Supreme Court Collegium has sent a recommendation of 4 new judges names to the Central Government.

The Supreme Court Collegium in its meeting recommended the names of Himachal Pradesh High Court Chief Justice Ram Subramanian, Punjab and Haryana High Court Judge Krishna Murari, Rajasthan High Court's R Ravindra Bhatt and Hrishikesh Roy from the Kerala High Court. According to Law and Justice Ministry sources, within the next two to three days, the government will make a decision and inform the Supreme Court Collegium. Judge A.M. Sapre retired on August 27.

Earlier this month, President Ram Nath Kovind signed a bill to increase the number of judges in the apex court from 31 to 34. The Gazette in this regard was also issued on August 12 after the signing of President Kovind. Now the total number of judges, including the Chief Justice in the top court, will be 34 after the President's permission.
