New Delhi: The Supreme Court has sought a response from the Central government on public interest litigation (PIL) in the Dolo 650 case. For that, the central government has now asked the pharmaceutical company Micro Labs Private Limited to give information about the doctors who were given gifts worth crores. The central government will file a reply before the next date of hearing in the apex court.
During the ongoing hearing in the Supreme Court, the Medical Representatives (MR) said on Thursday that the pharmaceutical company had given gifts of more than Rs 1000 crore to doctors to prescribe Dolo-650 medicine to patients. During the hearing, senior advocate Sanjay Parikh, appearing for the Federation of Medical and Sales Representatives Association of India, referred to a report by the Central Board of Direct Taxes. According to the report, 'Dolo Company gave gifts worth more than Rs 1000 crore to doctors to prescribe Dolo-650 medicine. These doctors were playing with the lives of patients and prescribing them the wrong dose.'
Justice DY Chandrachud, who is heading the bench hearing the case, shared his experience during this time. He said that when he had a corona infection, he was also told by the doctor to take Dolo-650. Apart from Justice Chandrachud, the bench also included Justice AS Bopanna. After hearing the arguments, the court said, 'This is a serious issue. It cannot be seen as ordinary litigation. We will definitely hear the matter. Now the next hearing on this matter will be held after 10 days.' In this PIL, it has been demanded that companies should be held responsible for the gifts received by doctors for prescribing a particular medicine.
