Surekha was studying in Aligarh Muslim University when once Abraham Alkazi Saheb came there with a play of his own. The name of the play was The King Lear. This play had such an impact on Surekha that she made up her mind to take admission in the National School of Drama.

Surekha Sikri had suffered her first brain stroke in early 2018, due to which she had been away from acting for a long time. While shooting in Mahabaleshwar, Surekha slipped into the bathroom, and her head hit the wall there. After which Surekha Sikri's condition worsened a lot. Surekha Sikri died on July 16 due to cardiac arrest at the age of 75.
