During the conflict between Israel and Hamas, disturbing accounts have surfaced about the brutality of the October 7, 2023 attack by Hamas militants. Raz Cohen, one of the survivors, recounted the harrowing events.
Cohen described how a group of five men from Hamas seized a woman, assaulting her after forcibly taking her clothes off. The attackers showed no remorse as one of them raped and fatally stabbed her. Shockingly, this was followed by another assault. Amid the chaos, Cohen attempted to escape with a friend, witnessing further violence.
As they fled, Cohen witnessed the ruthless killing of another woman. Seeking refuge, he hid in nearby bushes, which unfortunately became the vantage point for observing the horrendous assault.
The attack occurred during the Nova music festival in southern Israel, where Cohen was with his girlfriend Maya. This assault marked one of the deadliest incidents in Israel, resulting in the loss of more than 1,200 lives.
In response, Israel retaliated with a forceful offensive, including airstrikes and a ground invasion into Gaza, resulting in a staggering death toll of over 22,000 individuals.
Cohen additionally shared that after the initial assault, the assailants targeted another man and woman, brutally ending their lives with knives and an axe. Describing his own frantic escape, he recalled feeling trapped in an open desert, dodging bullets from all directions.
Amidst his flight, Cohen tragically witnessed an innocent bystander being fatally shot. Despite his desire to help, he was unable to assist, continuing to run until finding refuge in the bushes.
