Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput's flatmate Siddharth Pithani has been detained from Hyderabad in a drug case related to the actor's death on June 14 last year. Pithani has now been sent to 5 days custody of NCB. NCB zonal director Sameer Wankhede said Pithani was produced before a Mumbai court which remanded him to the agency's custody till June 1.

According to media reports, Pithani has been asked to join the operation but did not implement it and NCB officials have since collected information about his whereabouts. Wankhede said the drug law enforcement agency found that he was passing through Hyderabad. After which a team was sent from Mumbai on May 25 in search of Pithani, who had been absconding for a long time.

He said that NCB mumbai team has been assisted by the NCB, sub-zonal unit in Hyderabad. He said Pithani was arrested on May 26 and his statement has been recorded. He was later produced before a Hyderabad court for transit remand. Wankhede said that with transit remand, Pithani was brought to Mumbai on May 28 and has appeared before a court.

The arrest comes nearly two and a half months after 33 persons including actress Riya Chakraborty, her brother Shovik and others filed a 12,000-page chargesheet in the Bollywood-drugs mafia probe case involving Sushant's death on June 14, 2020. Following two cases registered by the Drug Law Enforcement Agency following a tip-off from the Enforcement Directorate, the chargesheet was filed before the Mumbai Special NDPS Court on March 5. NCB is investigating the financial angle in the case of Sushant's death.
