New Delhi: Congress women's unit national president Sushmita Dev has resigned from the party. Now there are reports that she may join Mamata Banerjee's Trinamool Congress (TMC). Though it has not yet been sealed by TMC or Sushmita Dev, there are some specific reasons behind Sushmita Dev's election by TMC, which have come to light.
In fact, with the help of Sushmita Dev, TMC is planning its expansion to other states, with the first eye on Assam and Tripura. Sushmita Dev's father Santosh Mohan Dev is reaching Assam a lot. He has also served as a Union Minister in the Rajiv Gandhi government. After her father, Sushmita Dev has also gone to Parliament after winning from Silchar Lok Sabha seat on a Congress ticket. TMC wants to expand outside Bengal. The party feels that Tripura and Assam have a good opportunity for him where he can get success. In fact, there are Bengali-speaking people in the Barak Valley of Assam, while Tripura also has a good number of Bengalis.
The party was looking for a leader from Assam who could lead his party there. TMC had also tried to join Raijor party chief Akhil Gogoi. There were also two rounds of talks with them. the TMC had also offered him to take over the party's functioning in Assam. But there was no specific response from Gogoi. This was followed by a talk with Sushmita Dev, who appears to be paired.
