SRINAGAR: An armed confrontation between suspected militants and security forces in the village of Hoowra, located in South Kashmir's Kulgam district, resulted in the death of one individual believed to be a militant, while a policeman sustained injuries, according to officials on Tuesday.
"Local militant successfully neutralized. Further investigation is underway to determine the individual's identity and affiliation. Seized during the operation were incriminating materials, along with a cache of arms and ammunition. The search operation is currently ongoing," stated officials.
The exchange of gunfire commenced subsequent to a joint operation carried out by the police and security forces, acting on intelligence regarding the presence of militants in the area.
Upon cordoning off the vicinity, the hidden militants opened fire, prompting a retaliatory response from the security forces.
In recent times, numerous encounters have taken place between security forces and militants throughout the Kashmir region, leading to the elimination of multiple militants.
