Suspension of Transport Department Employees After Akhnoor Bus Accident

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Transport Department has taken significant action following a tragic bus accident in Akhnoor, Jammu, which resulted in 22 fatalities and 64 injuries on May 30. In response to this incident, the department has suspended six employees for negligence in their duties. This decision came after a high-level meeting chaired by Chandrakar Bharti, Principal Secretary of the Home Department, and subsequent orders from Neeraj Kumar, Secretary of the Transport Department.

The suspended officers include Ranjeev Bhasin (Motor Vehicle Inspector), Sumit Magotra (Assistant), and MTS employees Ashwini Kumar, Aman Kumar, Keshav Singh, and Rakesh Kumar. These suspensions will remain in effect during the ongoing investigation of the incident. The Jammu administration has also initiated a helpline service to assist the relatives of the victims.

The accident occurred when a bus carrying passengers to Shivkhodi for a pilgrimage fell into a deep gorge at Chungi turn in Akhnoor. The crash was reportedly caused by the driver losing control of the bus after another vehicle suddenly appeared at a sharp turn. The injured were promptly taken to a hospital for treatment. Top officials are closely monitoring the situation, and the investigation is ongoing.
