New Delhi: Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MP Swati Maliwal expressed outrage on Sunday over the delay in action against officials responsible for the deaths of three civil service aspirants at an IAS coaching institute in West Delhi's Old Rajinder Nagar. Maliwal stated that the incident should be termed "murder" rather than a disaster.

Maliwal called for a FIR to be filed against government officials, criticizing the lack of response from Delhi government ministers, the mayor of the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, and other officers even hours after the incident.

Speaking about the Old Rajinder Nagar Coaching Centre incident, Maliwal said, "The students are very sad and angry. It has been more than 12 hours, and till now neither any minister of the Delhi government nor the mayor of MCD nor any officer has come. I believe that these deaths are not a disaster. This is murder. An FIR should be registered against all these big government officials."

She emphasized the plight of students who come from various parts of the country with big dreams to prepare for the UPSC, supported by their hardworking families. "Their families toil to send them through difficulties, and then these kinds of incidents take place where they die in such unfortunate circumstances," she added.

Maliwal also demanded compensation of Rs 1 crore for the families of the deceased students and called for immediate apologies from the minister and mayor. She vowed to raise the issue in Parliament and advocate for the students' demands, highlighting that complaints about the drainage system had been made 12 days prior to the incident.

Delhi BJP Chief Virendra Sachdeva also called for an inquiry into the Old Rajinder Nagar incident. He demanded investigations into alleged corruption within the Delhi Municipal Corporation and questioned why the drainage system had not been cleaned.

In response to the incident, Delhi police arrested the owner and coordinator of the IAS coaching center where the three students lost their lives after the basement flooded with water. The victims, identified as Shreya Yadav from Ambedkar Nagar, Uttar Pradesh; Tanya Soni from Telangana; and Nivin Dalwin from Ernakulam, Kerala, were sent to Ram Manohar Lohia Hospital (RML) for an autopsy.

The Old Rajinder Nagar incident occurred just days after another UPSC aspirant was electrocuted on a waterlogged street in Delhi, raising concerns about the city's infrastructure and safety measures for students.
