Taiwan conducted a test to defend its airspace on Tuesday morning, using Patriot missiles from the US and its own anti-aircraft artillery systems. This move comes in response to increased Chinese military activities near the island.

China claims Taiwan as its territory and has not ruled out using force to bring it under its control. Chinese warplanes and ships frequently approach Taiwan, increasing military pressure without engaging in outright war.

Taiwan's Air Force Command carried out the exercise between 5 and 7 am, involving domestically produced Sky Bow missiles alongside US-made Patriot missiles, as well as army and navy units. The goal was to ensure effective coordination among the military branches in defending the airspace.

The Air Force emphasized the need for such training due to frequent Chinese military intrusions into Taiwan's airspace and waters. Taiwan's rejection of China's claims has heightened tensions, especially with the recent election of Vice President Lai Ching-te as president, whom China sees as a separatist threat.

In the 24 hours leading up to 6 am on Tuesday, Taiwan's defense ministry reported 13 Chinese aircraft and seven navy vessels near Taiwan. Last week, Taiwan observed 36 Chinese military aircraft in a single day, marking the highest number this year.
