Chennai: A toilet wall at a Government school in Tirunelveli fell on Friday, killing three children and injuring three others severely. The incident occurred around 11.30 a.m in the school next to the Tirunelveli corporation office building, police said.

 A rescue operational team was deployed by police and firefighters who raced to the scene. The school administrators and police have yet to release the children's names and other personal information. The district collector has arrived on the spot as well.

The dead were taken to the Tirunelveli district hospital for post-mortem examinations, while the three injured youngsters were taken to the Tirunelveli medical college hospital for treatment. The cause of the building's collapse, according to a senior police officer, is still unknown. The sad tragedy has prompted police to launch an inquiry.
