Chennai: On Tuesday, Tamil Nadu Bhartiya Janata Party Chief K Annamalai stated that the state BJP unit will neither tolerate or allow the imposition of Hindi. While speaking at a press conference, Annamalai declared, "The BJP in Tamil Nadu will not allow the imposition of Hindi in the state. If Tamil becomes a connecting language in our country, the party will be pleased."

He said that Congress tried to impose the Hindi language in the past, but that it was met with opposition. After Union Home Minister Amit Shah underlined the importance of accepting Hindi as an alternative to English rather than local languages, the BJP politician made his statement.

On the subject of rising fuel prices, the BJP leader added that all state governments have reduced fuel taxes and urged the Tamil Nadu government to do the same. He went on to say that the Tamil nadu government is working on obtaining fuel from Russia, but that the state government could lower taxes until then.
