CHENNAI: S. Duriamurugan, the Tamil Nadu Water Resources Minister, said on Monday that Chief Minister M.K. Stalin would decide whether the state should accept the supervisory committee till the National Dam Safety Authority is operational.

In response to a call to attention motion in the assembly, he stated that the Dam Safety Authority would not take effect for another year. "The monitoring committee includes our Chief Secretary and their (Kerala) Chief Secretary. The question is whether we will accept the supervisory committee's suggestion to give the Dam Safety Authority authority. There is no alternative option, according to our lawyers. I am requesting that the Chief Minister call a meeting with the opposition and make a decision "he stated.

O. Panneerselvam, the Deputy Leader of the Opposition, and other party leaders proposed the calling attention motion. During his speech, the former Chief Minister urged the current Chief Minister to use his friendship with Kerala's Chief Minister to raise the dam's height to 152 feet.

The Supreme Court's division bench, consisting of Justices A.M. Khanwilkar, Abhay S. Oka, and C.T. Ravikumar, ordered the Mulleperiyar Dam supervisory committee to be strengthened and called on the states of Kerala and Tamil Nadu to provide all essential assistance to the committee.
