Tamil Nadu concentrating on services, manufacturing sectors: Stalin

CHENNAI: M.K. Stalin, the chief minister of Tamil Nadu, said on Tuesday that the state is putting its focus on advancing the industrial and service sectors.

The Tamil Nadu Industrial Development Corporation Ltd (TIDCO) hosted the Conclave on Industry 4.0, and Stalin, speaking at the event, said: "Some feel focusing on the services industry will generate significant growth than focusing on the manufacturing sector." Stalin asserted that for the state to be successful, it must lead in both the manufacturing and service sectors. Only then can the inclusive Dravida Model of Growth be realised.

Stalin also opened the Tamil Nadu Smart and Advance Manufacturing (TANSAM) and Tamil Nadu Advanced Manufacturing Center of Excellence in addition to unveiling the Tamil Nadu Aerospace and Defense Industrial Policy 2022. (TAMCOE). 

The TANSAM, which TIDCO and Siemens established at a cost of Rs 251.54 crore, is the nation's first of its kind and will serve the aerospace, electric vehicle (EV), marine, green energy, biotech, industrial automation, robotics, and other industries.

The TANCOE, which TIDCO and GE Aviation established at a cost of Rs 141 crore, will enable research and prototype production utilising additive manufacturing technology, the government said. Also, TIDCO signed a contract with DE Drone and the Indira Gandhi Rashtriya Uran Akademi to establish drone pilot training facilities in Coimbatore and Madurai.

In addition, the TIDCO and GTN signed an agreement to establish a joint testing laboratory for surface coating and heat treatment for aerospace and defence components.
