Tamil Nadu has been in power for the last 10 years in the AIADMK's share. The AIADMK, which returned to power under J Jayalalithaa in the 2011 assembly elections, had managed to retain power till 2016. But Jayalalitha passed away in the same year and the party started pulling over the CM post. At first, the chief minister's crown went to O Panneerselvam, but as soon as the party's command came into the hands of Sasikala, who was close to Jayalalithaa, he made his trusted E. Palaniswami CM.
M Karunanidhi was then its president till his death in August 2018. Finally, the command of the party fell into the hands of his son MK Stalin. Now, this time, the DMK has entered the fray under Stalin's leadership. DMK chief MK Stalin is contesting from the Kolathur assembly seat. Some time ago, official trends emerged for 170 seats in Tamil Nadu. According to trends, DMK was leading in 76 seats and AIADMK was leading in 68 seats. At the same time, the DMK alliance was leading in Tamil Nadu in view of the early trends in counting.
The party and its allies, including the Congress, were leading in at least 137 seats, while several candidates from the ruling AIADMK were trailing. However, Kamal Haasan, founder of Makkal Needi Maim, is now leading from Coimbatore (South) seat. With this, the official trends for 209 seats have now emerged in Tamil Nadu. According to it, DMK is leading in 98 seats, AIADMK 81 seats.
