Lockdown extended till July 19 in this state, social and cultural programs to remain closed

Chennai: The lockdown in Tamil Nadu has been extended with some more discounts till July 19. Under the relaxation, hotels, tea shops, bakery, roadside shops, breakfast shops can remain open till 9 pm with 50 percent of customers. As well as schools, colleges, theatres, bars, swimming pools, zoos will remain closed. Inter-State Transport (except Puducherry) and social/political/cultural programs will remain closed.

Buses will continue to operate for Puducherry. Shops and other activities that were allowed till 8 pm will be allowed to remain open till 9 pm. Earlier on July 2, the Tamil Nadu government had extended the lockdown in the state with several exemptions till July 12. Tamil Nadu registered 3,039 new covid-19 cases on Friday and the total number of cases with 69 deaths has gone up to 25.13 lakh.

With this, the total number of deaths has gone up to 33,322. Meanwhile, vaccination centers were closed in many districts as they did not have stock. There were 50,000 vaccine doses in the state on Friday morning and by evening the state had vaccinated 46,812 people. State Health Secretary J Radhakrishnan met senior health ministry officials and demanded vaccination.
