Chennai: The Tamil Nadu government has announced several restrictions in the state amid rising corona cases. An official release ordered the closure of vegetable and food shops located in the commercial complex from May 6 to 20, while standalone shops can remain open only till noon with only 50 percent of customers.

On the other hand, government-run TASMAC liquor shops have been allowed to open for four hours between 8 am and 12 noon till May 20 under the new corona ban imposed in Tamil Nadu. TASMAC issued a statement on Wednesday saying, "All senior regional managers and district managers are directed to inform shop workers that all TASMAC liquor shops will remain open from 8 am to 12 noon from May 6 to May 20, though shops will remain closed on Sunday due to a complete lockdown.''

In fact, on Tuesday, the government announced more sanctions as part of its covid-19 prevention measures as part of the decline in the pace of corona infection even after sanctions. This includes a ban on running shops other than those selling essential items like vegetables and food items. According to orders issued by the state government, all government and private offices can work with only 50 percent of employees, while the seating capacity in metro rail, private buses, and taxis has been reduced by 50 percent.
