Chennai: Due to a depression over the Bay of Bengal, heavy rain is expected in parts of Tamil Nadu over the next few days. People in Chennai awoke today to heavy rain, which resulted in waterlogging in some areas of the city. Schools in Coimbatore were also closed on Wednesday as a result of the weather department's red alert.

Over the districts of Chennai, Tirunelveli, Kanyakumari, Thenkasi, Virudhunagar, Madurai, Ariyalur, Perambalur, Kancheepuram, Tiruvallur, and Chengalpattu, as well as Kerala, coastal Andhra Pradesh, and Rayalaseema, heavy to very heavy rain is expected in isolated locations. Isolated areas in the Nilgiris, Coimbatore, Erode, Salem, Vellore, Ranipettai, Tirupattur, Tiruvannamalai, Thoothukudi, and Kallakurichi districts are also likely to see heavy rain.

"A low-pressure area has formed over the same region as a result of the cyclonic circulation over the southeast Bay of Bengal and its environs. Up to 4.5 km above mean sea level, the associated cyclonic circulation exists. During the next 36 hours, it is very likely to consolidate into a depression over the southwest and adjacent Southeast Bay of Bengal. By the early morning of November 11, 2021, it is expected to move west-northwestwards and pass close to the north Tamil Nadu coast. Over Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, the Karaikal region, and Kerala, the northeast monsoon has been active "The regional meteorological department in Chennai issued a daily bulletin.
