Tamil Nadu has the highest number of such temples and monuments in the country. The disputes over the Hindu religion and cultural heritage have been in discussion for a long. Every month a new matter is filed in Madras High Court. Amid such ruckus, Tamil Nadu Minister for Hindu Religious and Charitable Endowments PK Sekar Babu launched the Tamil Archanai scheme at Kapaleeswarar Temple in Mylapore, Chennai on Thursday.

Sekar Babu also spoke to media persons and said that the scheme was launched on the advice of Chief Minister MK Stalin. This scheme will initially be launched in 47 major temples across the state. Under this scheme, the department would place display boards in such temples with contact numbers of the priests, who perform pujas and archanais in Tamil. The department has displayed the numbers of three priests to perform pujas in Tamil in the Kapaleeswarar temple.

The minister also added that the present system of chanting archanai mantras in Sanskrit would not be disturbed. "The present system of chanting archanai mantras in Sanskrit will not be disturbed in any manner. Only a few selected priests will chant these mantras in Tamil based on wishes of the devotee," said Sekar Babu.
