Chennai: Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke to Chief Minister MK Stalin last Sunday after heavy rains in different parts of Tamil Nadu. At the same time, he assured them of all possible assistance from the Central Government in rescue and relief operations. Let me tell you all that due to heavy rains overnight, chennai and its suburbs were inundated. In view of this, the administration has issued a preliminary flood alert. In fact, three reservoirs of the city have been opened in a phased manner to shed excess water.

Let me tell you all that chief minister Stalin on Sunday directed the authorities to expedite relief and rescue operations in many parts of Tamil Nadu and Chennai after heavy rains during the last 24 hours. After heavy rains here, the government has declared November 8 and 9 as holiday in schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kanchipuram and Chengalpet districts.

Four NDRF teams have also been deployed in the state. It is said that during the last 24 hours, 36 districts received heavy rainfall, the highest being 134 in the state capital. 29 mm of rain was recorded. Stalin, on the other hand, visited Kolathur, Permbur, Pursaivalkam, Kosapet and Oteri and distributed food and relief materials to the affected people staying at a nearby school.
