Chennai: Rajya Sabha member Sasikala Pushpa from Tamil Nadu National Secretary of Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) P.K. Muralidhar Rao and former Union Minister P.W. Radhakrishnan has joined the ruling party. He was expelled from AIDMK in 2016. In a press conference here, Rao, in-charge of the party for the southern state, by including Sasikala in the BJP, described him as an aggressive and outspoken leader in Tamil Nadu.

Sasikala's term in the Upper House of Parliament will expire in a few months. She was involved in a dispute with the DMK MP in 2016 and is accused of slapping the MP. After this, she was expelled from the party by AIDMK Supremo and former Tamil Nadu CM J Jayalalithaa. In a press conference at the BJP office, Rao announced Pushpa's joining the party, saying it would be beneficial for the saffron party in Tamil Nadu.

The BJP's decision to induct Sasikala into the party is an attempt to strengthen its base in Tamil Nadu, given the assembly elections in the state next year. The BJP has already started preparing for the assembly elections in Tamil Nadu.
