Since July 2020, the Tamil Nadu state has reported less than 4000 new COVID-19 cases on October 18, 2020. The new cases reported on sunday is 3914 and the death toll is 56 making the new tally to 6,87,400 and 10,642 respectively. Prior to Sunday, on July 11 TN reported 3965 positive cases out of 36,629 tests, positive rate is 10.8%.

Tamil Nadu was starting to record 5000 , 6000, 6500 cases on successive basis. Sunday, from testing 88,643 people 3,914 cases has been reported. Chennai district has reported the highest 1,036 cases against 1,132 cases on Saturday while the neighbouring districts of Chengalpattu, Kancheepuram and Tiruvallur reported 174 cases, 130 and 195 cases respectively. The region accounted for 39 percent of new cases altogether. The Western region contribution stands 319 by Coimbatore, 111 Erode, Namakkal with 117, Salem with 188 and 166 cases from Tiruppur has been reported. This region accounts for 23%.

4,929 people were discharged after treatment said the Directorate of Public Health. The total discharge stands at 6,37,637 whereas the active cases and people in isolation remains at 39,121. Of all the death cases, only one did not have comorbid conditions. A 55 year patient from Nilgiri admitted on October 14 died on October 16 tested positive on October 15. He died due to bilateral bronchopneumonia, and acute respiratory distress syndrome.
