A leading group of traders in Tamil Nadu is going "swadeshi" by boycotting Coke and Pepsi from today (March 1) citing health and environmental reasons.
The trader's bodies – the Tamil Nadu Vanigar Sangam and the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation – had taken the decision to not sell the MNC giants' products from March 1 soon after the Jallikattu protests in the state.
Vellaiyan, Head of the Tamil Nadu Traders Federation said that "Most traders stopped selling Pepsi and Coca-Cola products soon after the Jallikattu protests. Now, more will join in."
The President of the Traders Union, Vikram Raja claimed that all traders in Tamil Nadu have supported the call to boycott the aerated drinks and that they will soon meet Chief Minister Edappadi K. Palaniswami to demand a formal ban on the drinks.
