K Pandiarajan, state Minister for Tamil Official Language and Tamil Culture on Sunday said that pottery evidence from Keezhadi shows that Tamil people had mastered nanotechnology even before 2,500 years. “Nanotechnology that we speak today had been mastered by Tamils before 2,500 years ago and the evidences for usage of nanotechnology had been found in Keezhadi. As people of Tamil Nadu we should be proud about the discovery,” said Pandiarajan, during his address to the reporters in Chennai.

Keezhadi excavation commenced in 2014, so far has done at six phases and the majority of excavations were artefacts and potteries. After the sixth phase of excavation, completed in October, nanotechnology usage in Keezhadi was found out and it is claimed that it is the first time that usage of nanotechnology was found out before 2,500 years ago. The articles published in scientific journals said coatings on top of the potteries excavated from Keezhadi contains carbon nanotubes. The robust mechanical properties of carbon nanotubes the coatings have lasted for so many years, says the Scientists.

The Minister claimed that the usage of carbon nanotubes shows that Tamil society was highly developed. “If people had known the nuances of nanotechnology 2,500 years ago it is evident that Tamil society must have been an advanced and evolved society,” said Pandiarajan.
