Central Government selects Tata Motors and Hyundai to buy electric vehicles

Central Government's Energy Efficiency Services Ltd has selected Tata Motors and Hyundai Motor India automobile companies to purchase 250 electric vehicles. These companies have been selected through an international competitive bidding process aimed at promoting stake.

Tata Motors Ltd. and Hyundai Motor India got the tender. According to Energy Efficiency Services Ltd., Tata Motors will supply 150 Nexon XZ electric compact SUV. While the Hadiay Motor will be purchasing 100 Kona Electric Premium SUV. These electric vehicles will replace the existing petrol and diesel trains of central and state governments.

EESL, a joint venture of four power ministry undertakings- NTPC, PFC, REC and Power Grid, said Tata Motors and Hyundai will purchase 250 electric trains from Motor India. Purchase orders were given to both the companies on Thursday. Tata Motors CEO and managing director Guntar Butshek, Tata Motors chairman Shailesh Chandra and Hyundai Motor India director Tarun Garg were present on the occasion.

Also, a US$50 million grant recently given by ADB for this purchase will be utilized. Energy Efficiency Services Limited has received funding from ADB to promote high priority locations such as demand-side energy efficiency sector projects.
