Bhopal: There have always been questions about the extra taxes imposed on petrol and diesel. Due to these taxes many times due to the low prices in the international markets, people do not get the benefit here. In the recent budget, the government had announced to increase the tax on petrol and diesel. Due to this tax, petrol and diesel are not the same prices across the country. Madhya Pradesh imposes the highest tax on petroleum products as compared to the entire country.
Due to this, petrol and diesel are the most expensive in the state, due to which there is an impact on their sales in the border districts of other states. There will be no tax reduction on these in Madhya Pradesh. State Commercial Tax Minister Brajendrasinh Rathore said clearly that the government had to take this step to repay the debt. So people will have to pay more for buying petrol and diesel.
The minister says that the past government had left the state in a situation, where there is no scope for tax reduction. However, the state is also supporting bringing the fuel under the GST regime. The people of the state pay 28 percent VAT, one percent cess and Rs 3.50 per liter surcharge on petrol. This increases the price of petrol by more than five rupees per liter compared to other states. Diesel attracts 18 per cent VAT, one per cent cess and two rupees per liter surcharge. This increases the price of diesel by Rs 3.50 per liter more than other states.
