Dindori: Citing 'community tradition', a government employee buried his wife's body inside his house in Madhya Pradesh's Dindori district. After protests by neighbours, the body was pulled out and taken to the cemetery. On Tuesday, teacher Omkar Das Mogre (50) buried the body of his wife Rukmani (45) in the verandah of the house after she died of sickle cell disease.

The local people complained to Dindori Tehsildar Govindram Salame about the burial of the dead body in the house. According to sources, neighbours and their relatives protested while the body was buried at home. However, Mogre told people that he is doing this because he loves his wife.

He also told the local people about a practice of the Panika community in which the bodies of family members are buried in residential premises in rural areas of Dindori district. Kotwali police station in-charge CK Sirame said that Mogre had buried the dead body on August 23 on the basis of community custom. The body was exhumed the next day by local officials after protests by neighbours. Thereafter, the body is buried in the cemetery.
