Chennai: Team India, which is considered to be an expert in winning home pitches, has suffered a humiliating defeat in the first Test against England. England has defeated India by 227 runs in the first Test of the four-match Test series being played in Chennai. Chasing a target of 420 runs on the last day, Team India collapsed for just 192 runs and England took a 1-0 lead in the four-match Test series.

The Chennai pitch was much better for batting on the first two days, which England batsmen took advantage of and made 578 runs in front of India in the first innings. When India's batting came on the third day, Chennai's pitch started breaking and the spin bowlers got a lot of help.

England took a lead of 241 runs, bundling India out for 337 in their first innings, England then set a target of 420 runs to win in front of India in the end, in response to which the Indian team was shattered. Chasing 420 on the final day of the match, the Indian team collapsed for just 192 runs and England took a lead of 1.0 in the four-match Test series.
