Karnataka, UP and Delhi have registered impressive victories against their competitors in pool matches on the opening day of the 12th Hockey India Senior Women's National Championship. In the opening match of the tournament, Karnataka defeated Arunachal 10-0 in Pool F. Tamil Nadu was also the winner. In Pool G, UP beat Goa 8-0 while Delhi beat Gujarat 13-0.
In the previous match, Tamil Nadu and Haryana made it to the final of the Hockey India Senior Men's National Championship with easy wins in the semi-finals. Haryana registered a 5-2 win against Maharashtra in the first semi-final, while Tamil Nadu beat Karnataka 3-0 in another match of the last 4.
For Haryana, Deepak (21st, 50th), Deepak Kumar (12th), Ravi (27th) and Pankaj (45th) scored while captain Taleb Shah (24th, 52nd) scored both goals for Maharashtra. The first half of the match between Tamil Nadu and Karnataka was goalless. After which J Joshua Benedict Wesley (44th), Sundarpandi (50th) and Saravana Kumar (54th) also scored goals for Tamil Nadu. The final has been played on Sunday. Maharashtra and Karnataka are going to play playoff matches for the third and fourth places before this.
