SRINAGAR:  Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha ordered an investigation into the tear gas shelling incident on Kashmiri Pandits on May 13 on Sunday.

According to administrative sources, "strict punishment will be taken against authorities implicated in the action." Police sprayed tear gas on Kashmir Pandits who were peacefully protesting the terrorist death of government employee Rahul Bhat inside a government office.

According to Manoj Sinha, "The assassination of Rahul Bhat was premeditated. Special Investigation Team will investigate all aspects of the incident, including the deployment of force to disperse Kashmiri migrant protestors in the aftermath. Two foreign militants have been killed. The administration has been told not to use force in any situation." The government agreed to provide Bhat's widow with a job and financial help.

In addition to the formation of a Special Investigation Team to probe Bhat's murder, the station house officer (SHO) of Chadoora police station was removed.

On May 12, Bhat was killed in Chadoora town during office hours.
