Bhopal: The results for Tech Innovation Challenge 2016- organized by CII-MP & Young Indians-Bhopal Chapter and Rajiv Gandhi Proudyogiki Vishwavidyalaya (RGPV) were announced today. The UIT team won the first prize for their innovation ‘WiBin-the Wifi dust bin’. There was a tie for second prize and it was given away to Scope College team for their idea ‘Automatic Speed Controller’ and Truba College team for ‘Solar Roof Lighting’. The third prize was won by LNCT College for ‘Generation of Electricity Through Footsteps- Walk & Shock’. The prize distribution ceremony was organized at RGPV auditorium this afternoon.
RGPV Vice Chancellor and chief guest of prize distribution ceremony Prof Piyush Trivedi gave away the prizes to the winners. The competition was organized with an objective of identifying and promoting the spirit of innovation among the students of engineering colleges. Students had to present their ideas and models on important topics like smart cities, renewable energy, automotive, traffic management, waste management and innovations for rural India.
Earlier in the day the 11 shortlisted participants gave presentations to demonstrate their ideas before the jury. Parameters on which jury members judged the entries included uniqueness of idea, problem identified for solving and its magnitude, scalability of idea and prospects for commercialization, presentation of the idea and team work involved. Finally the jury members selected four best ideas and now these will be sent to government of India under startups.
Prof. Piyush Trivedi in his address said that “Encouraging entrepreneurship in young people is an important way of harnessing their enthusiasm, energy and ambition to contribute to economic development. It is generally accepted that entrepreneurs create jobs, increase innovation, raise competition and are responsive to changing economic opportunities and trends.” He added “This is just a beginning, RGPV will take up more such innovation competitions to bring out best in budding engineers”.
CII YI Bhopal Chapter E&I vertical chair Siddharth Chaturvedi said “Entrepreneurship and Innovation is one of the key focus area for Yi this year to create a well balance eco-system by bringing innovation and entrepreneurship at the center stage of both business and social growth, and to support the Innovation promotion by identifying, discussing and evangelising innovations in Yi’s key focus areas of education, healthcare, environment and the likes”.
Speaking on the occasion guest of honour and CII Young Indians Bhopal Chapter chairman Mr Rakesh Sukhramani said "India is undergoing a startup and entrepreneurship boom, which is being promoted in a big manner by the government too at various levels. Further, innovation is considered key to entrepreneurship and the spirit of innovation needs to be fostered in the students at an early stage. This competition was an attempt in that direction."
