Patna: A war of words has begun in Bihar over the new Mahatma Gandhi Setu connecting Bihar's capital Patna with north Bihar. In fact, Union Road and Highways Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari and CM Nitish Kumar inaugurated the new Mahatma Gandhi Setu at Hajipur on Tuesday. The dedication ceremony was made entirely a government programme of the NDA, with no space for the opposition. The main opposition party RJD has been upset with this.

The RJD has raised questions as to why leader of the opposition Tejashwi Yadav was not finally invited to this government function. The RJD has contended that when the work of restoration of Mahatma Gandhi Setu started, Tejashwi Yadav was the road construction minister at that time, so in this capacity he should have also been invited to the dedication ceremony but it did not happen.

RJD spokesperson Chittaranjan Gagan said it was a very sad matter that a part of Mahatma Gandhi Setu falls in Raghopur, the assembly constituency of Tejashwi Yadav. Tejashwi Yadav played a key role in the restoration of the Mahatma Gandhi Setu. The leader of the opposition is a constitutional post and is considered equal to a minister, even after that he was invited as an ordinary MLA. It is condemnable. Union Minister Nitin Gadkari tweeted that Mahatma Gandhi Setu is the lifeline of Bihar, which connects North Bihar with South Bihar. With this super structure replacement project, the time to cross the Mahatma Gandhi Setu has been reduced from 2 to 3 hours to 5 to 10 minutes now.
